FAWM 2021 track 1. Everyone loves shanties this year, and I'm in a band that does them a lot, so I wanted to try and write one.
lyrics
The sea is vast, the ship so small, I hope and pray that I'll get home at all
The sky is blue, the sun so bright, my love for you makes me feel aright,
The wind is sharp, the spray so cold, oh, I think the sea will see me old
But halyards taut and canvas strong will see us home, to you where I belong
So row away and row away and row away for me
For once I'm back on land with my love, I'll ne'er return to sea...
It's been three years since we left the dock, just three times since, I've had my feet on rock
We've sailed from Hythe with hulls and spars, and many nights I've slept under the stars
The shift and sway rocks me to sleep, but I don't want to tarry on the deep
I set sails, the bow does foam, and now I fill my heart with dreams of home
So row away and row away, and row away for me
For once I'm back on land with my love, I'll ne'er return to sea...
The holds are full, our bellies too, in one week, I will be home with you,
The dolphins leap, the caul is stowed, we'll soon receive the profit we are owed,
The Scylla mute, red sky at night, Elmo's luck and fire brings delight
The harbor rises from the sea, and on the dock, my true love I do see
So row away and row away, and row away for me
For once I'm back on land with my love, I'll ne'er return to sea...
